Community and charity
We are proud to support a range of community and charity initiatives both in office locations and throughout our branch network. In 2019, colleagues across the Group chose local and national charities to support both through fundraising and volunteering.
In July 2019, 12 Grafton Group plc colleagues took part in the Wythall & Hollywood 10km Fun Run to raise £860 for the Mental Health Association, a British charity that offers support and education around the area of mental health. Our UK Group office also took part in a volunteering day at Headway, a local charity that provides services for the continued long-term development and community integration of people with brain injuries.
In 2019, Woodie’s raised €374k through in store fundraising for their annual Woodie’s Heroes campaign which supported four children’s charities nominated by colleagues – Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland, ISPCC Childline, Hand in Hand and Temple Street Foundation. Now in it’s fifth year, the total raised by the campaign since 2015 is €1,554,511, supporting a total of 9 different charity partners.
The Irish Group head office spent a day volunteering in Hugh’s House in Dublin, a facility that provides accommodation and food for parents of children who are inpatients of local maternity hospitals.
Group colleagues in Ireland also raised a total of €2,000 for charity partners Down Syndrome Ireland through a variety of fundraising events throughout 2019. They also raised money for the National Maternity Hospital NMH Foundation by hosting a coffee morning for World Prematurity Day, a cause close to the hearts of the team in Ireland.
Over the 2019 May bank holiday 22 colleagues from the Chadwick’s Group took part in Irelands 4 Peak challenge in a bid to raise funds for 4 worthy charities; CMRF Crumlin Children’s Hospital, Pieta House, Focus Ireland and Cystic Fibrosis Ireland. The team travelled across the country to climb the highest mountain in each province over four days. The team not only defeated the peaks but also raised over €68,000.
TGLynes and Plumbase Industrial were awarded a Gold Tier Supporter status for Phoenix Heroes, a charity that supports veterans and their families that are dealing with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). This includes community outdoor group activities, training courses and assistance to gain employment.
NDI Maidstone took part in a ‘Big Cycle’ challenge to raise money for Mind, a charity that offers support to people with mental health and raises awareness around the area of mental health. The group of 14 colleagues completed a 7-day virtual cycle ride around the NDI branches covering 1,126km.
