Physical safety is a well-established focus in construction, but mental health deserves equal attention. During Mental Health Awareness Week, and beyond, CPI EuroMix believes it is essential to recognise that mental wellbeing is a critical component of overall site safety.
Just as helmets, gloves and boots are worn to protect against physical harm, mental health requires proactive care and protection. The risks are significant: construction workers are six times more likely to die by suicide than from a fall on site. The industry faces high levels of stress, long working hours, physical demands, job insecurity and “toughen up” culture that can discourage open conversations about mental health.
CPI EuroMix is committed to supporting colleagues through its comprehensive Wellbeing Strategy, which addresses mental, physical, social and financial wellbeing. Each of the company’s ten sites, along with its head office, has trained Mental Health First Aiders available to support colleagues. In addition, employees have access to a free, confidential Employee Assistance Programme offering 24/7 counselling and support services. Colleagues are also encouraged to check in on their mates, ask how they are really doing or talk to their supervisor or mental health rep.
CPI EuroMix is also a proud signatory of the British Safety Council’s Being Well Together programme, reinforcing a long-term commitment to health and wellbeing across the business.
Mental health is not a one-week initiative, it is a daily priority.
